As part of Cardinia Council’s 2013-2018 strategic plan, Emerald Lake Park, a premier park and tourist attraction in the Dandenong Ranges, was assessed for its native vegetation and habitat connectivity. Overall, the vegetation was rated as poor to moderate condition due to its disturbance footprint and the planting or invading of introduced species since its establishment.
Cardinia Council’s goal was to improve the connectivity and quality of native vegetation while also maintaining the aesthetics, historical values and functionality. Wes was to achieve this through selective weed control techniques from skilled environmental technicians adapt at working within sensitive but degraded ecosystems. These works were then to be quantified annually by vegetation surveys undertaken in undisclosed locations.
